This week we have been learning about the Hindu festival of lights; Diwali, which celebrates the New Year. It is one of the most popular festivals in South Asia. We learned about the tale of Rama and Sita and we have rewritten the story. It teaches us that good triumphs over evil and light triumphs over dark.
Diwali is a very exciting and colourful holiday. People decorate their homes and temples by drawing patterns on the ground outside. They draw these designs wth sand, rice and flower petals. We looked at how a lot of Rangoli designs are symmetrical and decided to put our art and maths skills to the test by drawing our own symmetrical Rangoli.
